“We are all just walking each other home.”
— Ram Dass
Being a human brings us up close with hardship, loss, challenge, conflict, and sometimes “stuckness.” And because we live in an imperfect world with other imperfect humans, life’s journey is unpredictable and at times painful.
That said, it doesn’t have to be journeyed alone.
What is Therapy?
Our emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical health are all interconnected and at times in need of some fine tuning or repair. In our society, mental health is often left out of the conversation. We don’t get a reminder for an annual check-up in the psychological department (though that’d be helpful!) and our ability to openly discuss our mental health varies greatly based on our culture, family of origin, social supports, and stigma faced in our environment.
Therapy is one avenue to get focused support, attention and space to sort through the day to day grind and life’s turbulence with a trained professional devoted to your wellbeing and psychological healing. Awaiting you on the other side may be greater clarity, direction, solutions, and emotional relief.
Therapy starts with us building a trusting relationship that allows for safe and open expression of thoughts, emotions, worries, and so on. The conversations we have will dive deep into what is/isn’t working in your life and be guided by your goals for success. As your therapist, I will keep you accountable while maintaining a judgement-free zone.
Through this process, we might discover patterns in your life that no longer serve your best interests. We might explore fears holding you back from what you really want in life. We might go back into the past to process and heal old wounds, or we might stay zeroed in on the present matter at hand. Therapy helps you build greater insight and awareness, learn new coping skills, strengthen boundaries, and make important changes in your life.
You may benefit from individual therapy if you experience:
Discontent with your current life and desire for change
Difficulty communicating and expressing your emotions and needs in your relationships
Desire to change the way you feel and think about yourself and others
Difficulty navigating life transitions (e.g. job losses, pregnancy, parenthood)
Struggles with making life decisions (e.g. new job, going back to school, getting married)
Grief and loss over the loss of a loved one through death, separation, or a breakup
Difficulty healing from traumatic events (e.g. car accident, sexual abuse, domestic violence, racial trauma)
Depression, anxiety, frequent anger, and/or stress
Persistent issues in your relationships
I will use my own knowledge/education/experience to help you find the path to living your best life. I will utilize targeted approaches, offer suggestions, and ask meaningful questions that help you find solutions.
I believe the answers to our problems are within us, albeit sometimes buried.
I am committed to meeting you where you are at and most importantly where you want to be. I believe we all deserve the chance to thrive in all aspects of life. I liken therapy to a walk we do together in the woods, side by side.
It takes courage to open up and reach out for support. Your bravery in getting to this point speaks volumes.
